"Korai Mata Temple - Korigad Fort"
Religious Bhatkanti Series - Fort and its Village Deities
Korigad Fort is situated approximately 20 km from Lonavala. Korigad is also known as Koraigad Fort. It got its name from the temple of Korai Mata on the fort. There is a rock lamp on the temple premises. The idol of the Goddess looks very bright in the light of a small lamp in pitch darkness.
The top of the fort is flat and spreads north-south. Apart from the temple of Korai Mata, the fort has two Shiva temples, two ponds, bastions on the north and south sides, warehouses, caves, cannons, and ruins of palaces. From the fort, one can see the view of Ambi Valley City and the surrounding Sahyadri mountain peaks and forts. The route comes to the fort from the Peth Shahapur village at the base. Due to this, Korigad Fort is also known as Shahagad. Apart from that, there is also a route to reach the fort from Ambwane village.
